Honda has nailed it with the new 2014 City; the car has emerged as the best-seller in its segment beating the Hyundai Verna. The Honda City has sold more than twice the number of Hyundai Verna in February according to the sales report.
Honda confirmed that around 7,184 units of the City were delivered to the customers in January, whereas in February they sold 7,213 units. This explains that the City from the day of launch outdid the former segment leader Hyundai Verna. While it was all merry for Honda, the Korean car maker sold 3,803 units of the Verna in January and 3,342 units in February. These figures are in no way dismal, but the way the City has raked in numbers is astonishing.
Hyundai has added a new CX variant to the Verna lineup across the range in a measure to counter the competition. These are only counter measures and to negate the threat from the City, they will have to better that.
The Honda City has always been the nation’s favourite sedan, but the lack of a diesel engine did it no good and competition caught up. A little late, but nevertheless the addition of the diesel mill has only made it better. The Honda badge has a cult following among the enthusiasts unlike some of the competition. This along with the reliability and high resale value add up to an overall satisfactory experience of owning a Honda car. In a country where people ask for fuel-economy figures of a super car it makes sense to make fuel-efficient cars. Honda did just what the doctor ordered and is reaping the benefits.
